😊 In Plain English

A small 14-inch laptop for email, browsing with a few tabs, simple documents, and light schoolwork. Its $75 CAD price makes it primarily a backup device or a first computer for basic needs.

Its 8 GB of memory and 128 GB SSD help with responsiveness, but its older Pentium N3540 remains an entry-level processor. Its 4 cores do not make it faster than the Celeron N4000 shown in the comparison. Intensive multitasking and demanding applications should be avoided.

The battery works, with approximately 90 minutes of observed battery life, depending on use. The ASUS charger is included for long sessions.

Note: HD 1368 × 768 screen, not Full HD; memory already at the stated maximum of 8 GB; limited storage for many large files. This is not a computer for demanding recent games, 3D, or advanced editing. 30-day hardware warranty, battery and battery life excluded.

💰 Value Comparison: ASUS E402MA

Estimates provided by LA CLÉ INFORMATIQUE, not from an independent report of current listings or completed sales. Prices vary depending on the configuration and terms of sale. The historical new price is not a pre-discount price.

Our difference: the 8 GB configuration with SSD, detailed testing, preparation, and a 30-day hardware warranty, without hiding the processor's limitations.

⭐ A Compact Laptop for Basic Needs

The ASUS E402MA is an entry-level 14-inch computer for light tasks. Its 8 GB DDR3L and 128 GB SSD promote responsiveness without turning its older Pentium into a modern processor.

At home, it can be used to check email, prepare a small document, or browse with a limited number of tabs. Its format is convenient for moving it from room to room or storing it in a suitable bag.

Four Cores, with Limits to Understand

The Pentium N3540 has 4 cores / 4 threads. It can distribute certain tasks among its cores, but their number is not enough to determine speed. A newer two-core processor can be more powerful.

For a first learning computer, a casual user, or a backup device, its $75 CAD price is its main selling point. For children, choose compatible educational software and age-appropriate supervision, without promising compatibility with all games.

📊 CPU Comparison

📊 Chart 1 — PassMark CPU Mark

Common scale from 0 to 1,433 points.

Celeron N4000: 1,433 points

Pentium N3540: 1,205 points

Pentium N3540 Single Thread: 706 points. Distinct indicator from CPU Mark, not shown on the same scale.

🧮 Chart 2 — Cores and threads

Common scale from 0 to 4. Blue: physical cores. Green: threads.

Celeron N4000: 2 cores / 2 threads

Pentium N3540: 4 cores / 4 threads

The N3540 multicore score is lower than the N4000 reference shown here despite its four cores. Its older architecture and per-core performance limit its results. The 8 GB and SSD do not eliminate this computing limit.

Searches provided by LA CLÉ INFORMATIQUE: Pentium N3540, approximately 1,205 CPU Mark points and 706 Single Thread points under PerformanceTest V10, viewed October 30, 2026. The previous report from October 12, 2026, indicated 1,205 points and 707 Single Thread on cpubenchmark.net, CPU 2408 reference; the present block uses the more recent report. The N4000 reference of 1,433 points comes from cpubenchmark.net viewed October 11, 2026, and was not rechecked during the October 30 report. * Years of first appearance according to the information provided, distinct from the range period.
